I am planning on installing travetine tile in my bathroom…walls & floor plus shower walls…should I seal the tile before installation? What type of thinset should I use on the floor/walls and at what thickness? Stone bin (member)

Test a piece of stone by sticking it on to your substrate unsealed, if there are no ill effects (efflorescence, discolouration) then you should be fine unsealed. Use a non-slump white or offwhite coloured adhesive , minimum bed thickness 3mm, trowel your substrate and your tile. Notch size on the trowel 8-10mm will suffice if using 600x600mm tiles go for a 12mm notch. Remember to seal the tiles on completion of your project for water repellancy in your wet area. Anonymous
