I have recently finished an outdoor slate wall in my backyard but I did not grout over the tile – is grout necessary with slate? I did not want any grout lines for aesthetic purposes. I am planning to put slate down on my front porch this weekend and wanted to get some feedback before I get started. Thanks for any help. Anonymous

Slate tiles are not flat and some corners will stick up higher than others. I wouldn’t set it without joints on a porch, too many toe stumppers. I like a 1/4-5/16 joint in slate. Anonymous
