Install travertine

I am planning on installing travetine tile in my bathroom…walls & floor plus shower walls…should I seal the tile before installation? What type of thinset should I use on the floor/walls and at what thickness? Stone bin (member)

Sand and cement of Screed + Adhesive

I am drawing up proposal for 4000 sqm of polished sand stone for shopping pavilion 1st floor. As it stands there is reinforced concrete slab on steel work with a 50mm screed already in place. Could anyone advise on either adding another layer of screed plus adhesive or to go the way of bedding tiles on sand and cement with no need for and extra layer of screed. Any pros and cons would be gratefully appreciated

Granite: Moisture transfer from adhesive and sealer colour

Hello, a few questions, I’ve done a search and as far as I can tell these questions have not been answered. Of course having said that, after I thought I’d researched pretty well, I still have questions…

My husband and I are DIY w/i reason. We’ve put down a ceramic floor in a mudroom and now are tackling a granite tile countertop island. The 12″x12″ tiles are set in adhesive, that claimed it was fine to use w/stone tile also, however, the whole island is now darker. After we set it all I saw a post about sealing the entire tile first, can’t change that now really.

My questions are, will it dry lighter again? completely?

If we put sealer on it now would it stay darker?

Does sealer darken granite and it stays dark, changing the color? (cause we kinda like it better darker now that we see it)

Will the sealer that we use on the countertop tiles seal the grout also or do we need seperate grout sealant?

We still may do the rest of the kitchen in this tile and would like to know the answers before we decide.

Thanks so much, the answers and questions from others have already helped so much, gotta love the internet! Kimberly.

Marble staining during installation

We had some marble tiles layed the other day- without sealing them first- they were polished tiles. Grout was applied and left on for at least a day or so and we were told to get the grout off by a damp mop which we did. It has left marks on the marble tiles and made them look very dull. Would these marks be the result of water or the grout ? They aren’t dark obvious marks – just looks like translucent marks across the surface of the tile in sunlight. Just a case of polishing them ?
