:: ASAA InitiativesFollowing Standard’s Australia recent decision not to produce a standard stone installation, ASAA are confident that the recently launch ASAA Natural Stone Design Manual complete with CD, will become the de-facto standard for the selection, installation, maintenance and restoration of natural stone products. More than 100 copies of the ASAA manual have been sold in 8 weeks and ASAA will systematically make specifiers aware of the availability of the manual which was authored by many of the individuals who would have worked on a Standards Australia publication. The ASAA manual is based on the Marble Institute of America (MIA) manual which is regarded as a prime resource of information. With MIA permission ASAA has extensively revised the MIA document to produce local practices, terminology and specification processes. Given the absence of local standards encouraged architects defer to American, British and ISO standards. The ASAA manual references these documents. In addition the local manual includes additional chapters on several topics including slip resistance. In April 2011 ASAA will commence production of three videos which will showcase a small selection of members’ products. The videos are entitled; Native Stone, Imported Stone and Allied Products. ASAA will also investigate the possibility of establishing online training courses for individuals engaged in the sale of stone. |
